Call to Action: SB2333 Passed-Codifying That Ballot Images Are the Same as Paper Ballots
What’s to Be Done? Observers Will Be Doing Our OWN Post-Election Audits With the Paper Ballots. Sign up with the Office of Elections by April 30, 2024.
Yesterday SB2333 passed Conference Committee; all that is left for this bill to become law is Governor Green’s signature.
Everyone knows that ballot images are not the same as paper ballots. They know this, they know that we know they know this-and they don’t care.
As bad as SB2333 is for election integrity, all is not lost.
Republican party representatives from all four counties have informed the Office of Elections that official observers will be doing their own post-election audits using the paper ballots. This is allowed per Hawaii Administrative Rules 3-177-162(3).
For this to succeed we need LOTS of volunteers to sign up through the Office of Elections volunteer page by 4/30/2024. You will need to attend an orientation before the Primary election season starts in July.
1) Scroll to the bottom of this link to the “Sign up” section and find your county:
2) Choose your county and select “Official Observer”
3) Continue completing the form until you get to the scheduling page.
If you want to choose observer shifts that are unrelated to audits, I recommend choosing day shifts on dates closer to the election days, these are less likely to be cancelled. If you are not interested in these non-audit shifts click “next” to get to page two. I highly recommend observing for at least one regular shift before the audit dates to familiarize yourself with the process.
4) The second page of scheduling is the Post Election Processing shift page-choose as many audit shifts as you are able to attend for both the August Primary and the November General elections.
Complete the form and submit.
The OE may need to add additional dates or adjust the shift times for observer-led audits, but by submitting the form and attending the orientation at least we will have people in the system identified as willing to be involved in the audits.
We have been screaming about audits for years now. We can’t get this done unless we have enough volunteers.
PLEASE sign up today.
Mahalo, and Make Elections Pono Again!
I keep signing up, year after year, and never get chosen. Hmm.. could it be because I'm a visible activist for certain constitutional issues?
Looking for a compelling excuse to go Hawaii. Does a person have to be a resident of one of the counties to participate?
