This Year's Hawai'i Republican Party Caucus Will Probably Be the Last One EVER-OPPOSE SB2386
Testimony Due by Thursday 2/8/2024 9:30 AM
Democrat legislators are working hard to replace caucuses with state run Presidential Primaries.
We need your help to OPPOSE SB2386.
This is another RHOADS bill, Rhoads has been writing legislation that’s awful for election integrity and the people of Hawai’i.
The Senate Judiciary Committee hearing is Friday 2/9/2024 at 9:30 am.
Testimony must be submitted by 9:30 am Thursday 2/8/2024.
SB2386 is what I call a “slippery slope” bill. For example, slippery slope bills are how we went from no excuse absentee voting to universal mail in elections.
This is one of SEVERAL bills this session that pave the way to eliminate our party-run Presidential Caucuses which are done in person with Voter ID and hand counted paper ballots-and REPLACE them with STATE RUN PRIMARIES with mail-in ballots and counted by election software source code.
Passing SB2386 will allow them to pass all the following Primaries bills:
HB342: Replaces caucuses with state run Primaries and allows voters to change party registration on a presidential preference primary election ballot to vote in the opposing party’s Primary (this is what Democrats did for Nikki Haley in the recent Iowa primary)
HB1485: Establishes dates for Presidential Primaries
HB411: Provides that in a primary election for a legislative seat, the 2 candidates who receive the highest number of votes, regardless of political party, shall be the only two candidates to advance to a general election (aka “Jungle Primary”). This bill is not directly related the elimination of caucuses but it’s still bad news.
So far SB2386 is the only Primaries bill that has a hearing scheduled, but this is the one they need to pass in order to get all the other bills through.
This is the gateway bill.
If they pass ONLY this one bill this session then they can resubmit all the other ones next year and push them through in plenty of time for the 2028 Presidential election.
Don’t let them take away our caucuses! Submit testimony now in opposition to this bill.
